Community Outreach and Outpatient Services
As part of providing a comprehensive service for people with traumatic brain injury, we offer a range of community services as well as the residential services.
The services offered in the community include:
- Specialist assessments - occupational therapy, nursing, psychology
- Training for Independence - an ACC programme to work on specific independence goals as the need arises
- Vocational Rehabilitation
- Educational Support (paediatric)
- Meaningful Activities
Rehabilitation in the home or community
Either directly or through our Pacifica Plus service, we offer community based assessment and rehabilitation programmes for people who are referred by ACC. These people generally fall into two groups:
1. Those who are discharged from our residential service or hospital and need some follow-up to be independent or return to work. Alternatively, they may still need active rehabilitation (physiotherapy, occupational therapy, psychology) input but it is more appropriate for this to happen at home.
2. Those people who have an “old” injury and may be finding it difficult to manage independently in the community and require specialist assistance. There may also be assistance required to get back to part-time or full-time work.
Concussion outpatient clinics
The Concussion Clinic outpatient service is for those with a mild brain injury (concussion) that has not ‘healed’ naturally within a few weeks. We offer a specialist medical and psychological assessment and treatment service including counseling and support for the person and their family
At the heart of all our services is a focus on the individual client goals and outcomes as well as family-whanau involvement and support.
